MOVIE REVIEWS
THE FULL MONTY: A very funny British import about some out of work blue collar guys who decide to make money by putting on a strip show a la Chipendales. Each one is more plain and untalented than the next, but they all share a strong desire to make it work! Even though it took me at least 10 minutes to start to understand the heavy lower class British accents, this movie was a laugh fest!
TOMORROW NEVER DIES: The newest 007 adventure is quite exciting. Bond is nicer to his women, and they are a much stronger, more independent lot. And of course, Pierse Brosnan is definitely easy on the eyes!
AMISTAD: This film is a very powerful re-creation of an historical slave ship, mutiny, and the court trials that ensued. Learn the truth about the slave trade! See what really happened. Learn what this country is really based on! The movie blows away the traditional history books we were all raised on! Fine performances from all actors involved and Steven Spielberg is at his directorial best. If you have time for only one film .this is the one.
TITANIC: It's a tragic love story wrapped around fantastic effects depicting the sinking of the "unsinkable" Titanic. If you like disaster movies, this is a great one. Over three hours of drama, complete with authentically replicated sets and tons of water sent in for the finale!
IN & OUT: Beth's favorite comedy of the year! She's seen it 3 times and can't wait until it is on video so she can own it for her own viewing library. Kevin Kline plays a small town english teacher who is "outed" against his will by a former student who wins an Academy Award. Needless to say, his life is turned up-side down! Joan Cusack, Wilford Brimley and Debbie Reynolds are terrific. Tom Selleck does a great job as a gay t.v. reporter who convinces Kline to be true to himself. Beth laughed and laughed and laughed until she cried.
